Personal Research Project (PRP)

Hi Everyone!

For High Flyer this term we have to do a Personal Research Project (PRP). For my PRP I have chosen to do it on The Great Barrier Reef. I chose to do this because it is a great Australian icon, it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World AND I just love the colours of the coral and the fish that live there.

I had NO idea what to do for this so I decided to ask my mum and my sister for some ideas. They came up with HEAPS of ideas but none of them really interested me. But then I remembered I recently went to Bali and when I was there I went on a boat that you could see through the bottom of. I loved the coral and the colours, they were so vibrant and beautiful. So this is why I decided to do it on The Great Barrier Reef.

I hope to learn a lot about it as I don’t really know that much. So…Wish me luck?

Synonym poems!

Hi Everybody!

This week in literacy we have been learning on how to make our writing more vivid. This means instead of writing good, you could write fantastic. Or maybe if you wanted to write sad you could write gloomy. To practice doing this we have been writing Synonym Poems. Synonym Poems are when you write three or four synonyms for a word of your choice then on the second line you write a definition of the word. Here are some examples of Synonym Poems:

Big

Colossal, vast, immense, jumbo

big is an elephant named Dumbo.

Young

Adolescent, junior, youthful, growing

Young is when your parents get you to do the mowing.

Hot

Sizzling, blistering, fiery, blazing

Hot is when the temperature starts raising.

Notice how the last word on both lines rhyme?

Why don’t you give it ago……it could be fun!

Anyways, Cya Clover!! :D

Book Review On The Princess Diaries Series

Hi Everyone!!

For homework this week we have to write a review on the novel that we are currently reading.

I will be reviewing the series ‘The Princess Diaries’ series by Meg Cabot. I have just finished the last book, there are ten books in the series:

The Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries: Take Two

The Princess Diaries: Third Time Lucky

The Princess Diaries: Mia Goes Fourth

The Princess Diaries: Give Me Five

The Princess Diaries: Sixsational

The Princess Diaries: Seventh Heaven

The Princess Diaries: After Eight

The Princess Diaries: To the Nines

The Princess Diaries: Ten Out of Ten

This super hilarious and super romantic series was very very enjoyable to read and I even liked it that much that when I finished the last book I went and read the WHOLE series again!

It’s about a girl, Amelia Thermopolis (Also known as Mia), who finds out that she is the natural heir to the throne of a small European country, Genovia. But her grandmother, the Dowager Princess of Genovia, thinks she isn’t ready so she must take Princess Lessons until she believes Mia is ready to rule. Through the series she loses and gains friends, finds her one true love and on the rebound gets her own country she will one day rule! How cool is that?!

I really did love the series and I would recommendthis book to the ages of 12-15 (Girls). I don’t think younger readers would be able to read this because it might have some stuff in there that might be a bit too mature for them.

Out of 10 I would give this series 11! Because I just really like the whole romancey thing and all that.

I really hope you do try this series out!!

Meg Cabot also had Written: Avalon High, The Mediator Series, All American Girl and many more.

Inquiry-What Am I Listening To?

For homework this week we had to listen to a radio station that we don’t usually listen to for an hour or so and blog any of our thoughts.

I decided to listen to 107.1 (SAFM) between the time of 4.30 and 5.30 pm.

The music was all the popular and new songs so I didn’t really enjoy listening to it that much though there were some songs that I did enjoy listening to. Plus Hamish and Andy were on so I like listening to them. :)

I don’t really like any of the new songs because I think they all sound the same and I don’t really like rapping that much. I would prefer to listen to songs that aren’t mainstream.

Book Week!!

Hi Everyone!!

This week at school was Book Week. For those of you you don’t know what Book Week is, it’s where schools and public libraries around Australia celebrate books!! This year was it’s 65th anniversary and the theme was ‘Over the Story Bridge’.

On Tuesday was when Michael Panckridge came to our school to talk to us about his books and what it’s like being an author. He told us about what it was like when he went to school and how he hated reading and all he wanted to do was play sports, that’s why most of his books are sports orientated. He was really interesting and funny, I hope I get to read some of his books soon.

On Thursday we have a ‘Book Week Parade’ which is where you dress up as a character from a book that you have read and parade around the gym or quadrangle and show off what you are wearing. This year me and my friends decided to dress up as the Rainbow Fairies from the Rainbow Magic books, I came as ‘Ruby the Red Fairy’. We also met up with our Learner Well Being Groups and did an activity on a book.

This Book Week was very fun and exciting as it was my last Book Week for Primary School and I really liked dressing up!!

Inquiry…Am I Making Positive Connections?

Hello everyone!!

Our first inquiry unit for this term is ‘Am I Making Positive Connections?’. It’s about making safe choices and making sure you have people around you that make you feel safe.

This week we have been focusing on risk taking and consequences. Our task was to make a puppet show about a 13 year old kid who gets put into a risky situation but makes the choice that makes him/her feel safe.

Our play/puppet show was about a girl named Abigail who’s late for school and wants to cross the road before the lights turn red but decides not to because she doesn’t want to be put into any danger. I really enjoyed working with my group and making the props, overall I think we did pretty well.

3 Way Meeting Reflection

Hi Everyone, for those of you who don’t know what a ’3 Way Meeting’ is, it’s where you and your parents go and meet with your teacher to talk about how you have been going with your learning.

On Tuesday 22nd,I had my 3 Way Meeting with my teacher, Pala and my parents. Before we had the meeting we had to put together a power point that reflects on the five R’s. The five R’s are five different ways to reflect on events that have happened in an organised way.

My power point consisted of my highlights in my first semester, my goals and work that I am proud of and that is the most important to show. I believe my meeting went well but I think I could have improved by getting que cards ready instead of winging it.

My parents were very impressed on how I have matured over the semester and how I have been getting better at the subjects I was not so good at last year. I think over all my meeting was good and hope to improve by the next one so that i have more to show.

Lleyton Hewitt

Hi everyone, for High Flyers I’m have to write a biography about a famous person from South Australia aand it has to be over 200 words long. I chose to do my biography on Lleyton Hewitt…..so wish me luck!!

STATISTICS:

 Born: Adelaide

Height: 180 cm

Weight 77 kg

Plays: Right Handed

DOB: 24-02-1981

Turned Pro: 1998

Lleyton grew up in a family full of sporting achievers, His mum, who is Cherilyn Rumball, was a netball champion, Glynn Hewitt, his father, was a league footballer and his sister, Jaslyn, is ranked number one in Australia in tennis for her age group.

When Lleyton was four years of age he was already constantly hitting tennis balls over the net, that was when his mother and father decided to get Lleyton a coach. His parents thought they would get him a coach then so he didn’t get into habits of hitting the ball incorrectly. Two years after they got Peter Smith to coach him. Peter also coached John Fitzgerald, Roger Rasheed, Louise Stacey and his son, Luke Smith.

In 1999 Lleyton played his first game in the Davis Cup when he was asked to play with Pat Rafter at the quarter finals in Boston. He won both games against Todd Martin and Alex O’brien. After Lleyton joined Wayne Arthurs in Brisbane to win against Russia, defeating Kafelnikov and Safin. His Cup record at that stage was 4-0. He and Mark Philippoussis played final Nice, the opposition was France. Lleyton played a close match but went down in straight sets. He has won the 2001 U.S. Open as well.

Hope you found the post interesting!!

Thukeri

For our inquiry “Who has the cultural power?” we got to reanact a dreaming time story. First Ms.P arranged us into groups of four or five, in my group was DM, LO , JC and Me. After we found the people in our group we were given a few books to read and select a dreaming story to act out. My group chose “Thukeri”, which is a story about two men  who went fishing and caught a lot of fish (Thukeri)  but were really greedy and didn’t want to share with a strange man. The man said they wouldn’t be able to eat the fish ever again because they were so greedy and didn’t share.  The strange man turned out to be the great god Ngurenderi who taught them a lesson.  We rehearsed infront of the other year 7 class with props and recieved feedback for when we performed to the Junior Primary classes we would get everything right.

My thoughts on the performance was that we did pretty good and we all communicated well. I gained skills  from other group members and had a lot of fun with them when rehearsing and making props. I also gained more skills in talking infront of big crowds.

Camp Reflection

Aldinga camp was a really good experience and a lot of fun because we got to work in teams and learn about Aboriginal. Most of the teams had people in there that didn’t really know each other so it was good to go and socialize with other people. Learning about another culture is always exciting but the Aboriginal people are  interesting because they are very respectful for what they have. For example, every aboriginal person has a totem, which is a native Australian animal. They are not allowed to kill the animal unless they have permission then they are allowed to. Also the women and men have special artifacts that only one gender are allowed to touch or play, for instants, if the women play the didgeridoo then it is said that they will not have babies.

From this camp my thinking has changed a lot. Now i think that it’s not ALWAYS about me but other people and that working in a team you have to help and contribute too.

So until next time this was Clover!!

CYA!! :)
